You Have A New Identity!

2 Corinthians 5:17… Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Colossians 3:3 NASB… For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

From the moment of your salvation, the very second you came to Christ, you became a new creation in Christ. The old (fill in your name), the old nature of (fill in your name) passed away and everything became new! The reason all things became new for you is because when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior the Holy Spirit came to dwell in your heart. God’s Spirit took up residence inside of you!

At this conversion experience your old self, your old nature changed. You got saved!

The things that used to satisfy you in the flesh, no longer satisfy you because His Holy Spirit now indwells you (He has made His permanent residence inside of you) and has given you a new heart, a new mind and a new nature. Since He is holy, He will lead you into those things which are holy. Hallelujah!

You went from being separated from God by your sin, to being in fellowship with God. Romans 8:15 tells us you now have the privilege of calling Him “Father.” And because you are now led by the Spirit of God, you can boldly say you are a son or daughter of God. (Romans 8:14).

Your spiritual eyes and spiritual ears see and hear clearly now. You were given a new nature, a new heart.

Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

Galatians 2:20 states that you have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer “You” who live, but CHRIST living IN you!

“For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:3

You no longer are a slave to indwelling sin, you are FREE from it because you are now in Christ. Sin no longer has power over you, because sin was dealt with at the Cross. You no longer can comfortably live a life of habitual sin, because the Holy Spirit’s conviction will be evident. Your nature has changed. Not meaning you will not have opportunity to sin, but there will now be a desire to not sin, and if you do sin the Holy Spirit will bring conviction, so you will stop and repent.

What an amazing blessing He has given to you, wrapped up in your salvation package! Understand you are complete in Christ, and there is nothing you can add to gain salvation, or to maintain your salvation.

Likewise, there is nothing you can add to the work of Christ or to your new life in Christ in order to walk with God and experience true spirituality. Yes, there must be spiritual growth which comes from studying God’s Word, prayer, and so on, but that is ongoing. Your position in Christ is done at salvation! As a result of union with Christ, the believer’s life is hidden permanently in God through this union and identification with Jesus Christ.

If we want to experience the transformed life, we must understand and count on who we are in Christ and how that affects our walk in life.

You are not who you used to be! You have a new identity in Christ! Hallelujah! You need to let it sink in that you, as a true child of God now, do not have to win or earn the favor of God. You have the favor of God!

Isn’t all that exciting and life-transforming news!
